About us
Karpat Steel is a production plant of CHETRA SK s.r.o. We have been manufacturing on the site of the former Kovostroj works since April 2025.
Our story
Engineering production on the site began in 1958; most recently it was home to Kovostroj Medzilaborce, making steel structures and machine parts. In April 2025 we opened a new CHETRA group plant there, building on more than 65 years of engineering tradition.
On 20,000 m² of production space we cut, form, weld, machine and finish material. Your order does not travel between suppliers. You have one partner from drawing to dispatch.
We rely on people from the region (welders, fitters and machinists) and on modern machines, adding new ones as our customers need them.
History
An engineering plant was built in Medzilaborce, producing light and medium conveying equipment.
The plant became part of the Mostáreň Brezno organisation.
Production expanded to central heating boilers, mechanical shovels, transport cabinets, long-distance belt conveyors and steel structures.
The plant was transferred to VSŽ Košice (state enterprise). After the transformation, subsidiaries of the VSŽ group were set up here.
VSŽ STROJLAB a.s. Medzilaborce was founded. In 2005 it was taken over by KYKLOP a.s. Košice, in 2006 by STRIP a.s. Košice.
New company name from 16 March 2007. Steel structures, equipment for the mining and energy industries and spare parts for steelworks, with ISO 9001 quality management.
A new plant of CHETRA SK s.r.o. started production on the site. It belongs to the CHETRA group together with the sites in Hencovce and Ružomberok.

Site and halls
High halls with overhead cranes up to 12.5 t, wide gates and paved areas for loading trucks.

Certificates
Every part goes through dimensional inspection and we supply the order with documentation to EN 1090 and ISO 9001.
Steel structures, execution class EXC3
Certification of factory production control for steel structures. Class EXC3 applies to demanding load-bearing structures, for example in construction, energy and industrial plants.
Quality management system
Controlled processes from quote to dispatch: dimensional inspection, accompanying documentation and continuous improvement of production.
Environmental management system
We run production with care for the environment: waste sorting and recovery, responsible use of materials and energy.
Occupational health and safety management system
Safe work in the workshops and on site: assessed risks, trained people and regular workplace inspections.

Medzilaborce
From Medzilaborce we are close to customers in Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine. Oversized parts are loaded directly on site and delivered to the installation site.
